I have been on 𝕏 for 234 days.
I have failed.
I have fallen.
I have burned.
I have struggled.
Here are all the things I learned the hard way:
1# MORE ACTION, LESS TALK
Stop trying to be perfect.
Stop wanting to publish the perfect post.
Stop portraying a perfect image of yourself.
Perfectionism is destroying you.
We all have a ton of things to do.
So don't waste 3 hours polishing a post.
Just publish.
Same about the newsletter you want to start.
Stop thinking, more action!
2# DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE YOURSELF
It's a social media.
Humans are social by nature.
So be you, show what you love, what you do, your opinions, your conviction...
Show us what makes you, YOU!
You will attract the same people, & you won't have any competition.
Stop hiding, dare to show yourself, you are fine just the way you are.
All it takes is to let this fear go.
& ask you in the worst-case scenario, tell you, nobody will see it! It’s a good way to practice and get better at it!
3# HELP OTHERS
Getting thousands of followers
Having millions of impressions
Sending hundreds of DMs
Are great for egos, not for business.
Helping and sharing with others will change everything is your business.
Aim for impact
Make a change in people's life.
People will notice this because they will feel listened to, valued, and considered.
In short: give, give, give, give, & then receive
4# CONSISTENCY AND PATIENCE
We all are getting through the same phases.
Believe me.
There are days when everything is on track, while others are just out of control.
You will feel frustrated, annoyed, sad, or demotivated.
Some creators are ready to share it while others won't.
What matters here: be consistent & keep moving even if you don't see the results.
Know why you are doing this.
5# QUANTITY CREATES QUALITY
Quality is more important than quantity.
What is less often mentioned is that to achieve quality, you must first aim for quantity.
How I did this? I use the comment section to do.
All in one: it’s creating engagement, people notice me more & more, it gives me content ideas…
6# TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DON'T BE STUBBORN
NO, it's not the algorithm's fault. NO, you're not shadowbanned. NO, 𝕏 is not dying.
Many people continue to make the same mistakes over and over again in their strategy and constantly blame "others" for it.
Take time to review why it's not working & why it's working for others.
Plus you don't have excuses. AI can be your coach.
7# DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Stop this now, it will eat you up from the inside!
Comparing our growth with others won’t lead you anywhere…
We are all unique and have our own journeys.
If every day has its share of successes, it also has its share of failures.
We are all in the same boat.
Even the person who seems to have the most perfect life (and there are many on social media!) experiences failures and makes mistakes.
The only things you have to do even if it’s cliché: compare yourself with your past self.
To avoid it, here is what I do: I’m setting realistic goals, and focusing on personal growth rather than external validation
9# POST CONSISTENTLY
If you want to grow an audience & have a community, the secret lies in the consistency with which you create content.
Being consistent is not about posting too much.
It is about creating quality content regularly.
10# CONSISTENCY + QUALITY CONTENT = GUARANTEED AUDIENCE
It's impossible to not have an audience if you are following this.
Of course, it's not easy but it's simple.
Know who your target audience is.
Know what your content is aiming.
Know what level of quality you want.
This is the secret recipe to create impactful content.
11# POST HOW MANY TIME YOU WANT & WHAT YOU WANT
It’s not because a growth guru told you should post only once a day, you have to!
Find what works with you & stick it to it!
Don’t limit your topics, either.
Do not restrict yourself and be willing to try anything you desire (e.g. good practice: 2 posts per day, but if there's something really cool or important to say, go ahead and say it)
I think the list could go on 😅
But I have to stop here otherwise this email would be too long ahaha
In the meantime,
Stay awesome 💛
Marlene 🤗
PS : What's your main lesson you have learned since you are on 𝕏 ?!
These are some powerful lessons Marlene.
Some of them resonated a lot with me: The strive for perfection leads to inaction for example.
There are not set rules, we all need to find our own rhythm and not be afraid to be ourselves.
I find that the most challenging thing for me is to be a better storyteller and invite people into my thoughts and not just share advice that you could find on Google or Chat GPT.
Your writing is both entertaining and inspiring!
Highly valuable advice, Marlene, thank you.
